Swim, Bike, and Run your Age!
If Not Now, When?

I have an affinity for even numbers, especially multiples, that I think comes from my birth date (04/04/84). So, turning 24 on 04/04/08 is something I've looked forward to for a while!

A great birthday morning run has been a tradition for me since I started running about 8 years ago. I read about the B-Fit B-Day challenge earlier this year and, since I'm incapable of turning down a challenge, was psyched to work swimming and cycling into my day.

I live in the Mojave Desert, CA, where Joshua trees, coyotes, and 30+ mph gusting winds are the norm, and it's a 45 minute drive to a coffee shop, bookstore, decent restaurant, etc. Thus, I have plenty of time and space to work out and not much else to occupy my non-work hours. Since my birthday fell on a Friday, I didn't feel bad actually taking a "lunch hour" to get to the pool.

My challenge birthday-
5:30am: good morning! up and at 'em for a 4 mile run before work- time 33:40
work from 7-12
noon: dash off to the pool for a quick 3200 meters (2 miles)- time :56
back to work till about 4:30
5pm: 24 mi bike in some good winds- time 1:27:40

I self-photographed for my early run, am friendly with our lifeguards who were happy to play photographer at the pool, and asked a friend to help with the cycling ones. It was neat to see the sunrise and sunset while in self-powered motion!

Thanks for creating the great idea of the B-Fit B-Day challenge! I look forward to having these self-improvement goals on my birthday for years to come, and will be especially thrilled as I get to the later years in a decade when I'll run for well over an hour!
